Executive and Technology Committee's held meetings in Washington PA

The PONY Executive Committee and PONY Technology Committee held a meeting Washington PA on March 3. The Executive Board held clarifications on various issues including both PITCH SMART and RULE R-20 in regards to bats.

Pitch Smart: Pitchers will be allowed to pitch in more than one game in one day as long as they have pitches left.  This will be reviewed at next year's board meeting again.  Also, the number of pitches that a pitcher may throw is based on his Age and not the division at which he is playing.

Clarification of 2017, R-20:  8-Equipment: C-1, page 18.  "Bats manufactured specifically for use in tee ball, shall not be used when the ball is pitched by a player, coach, or pitching machine, unless using a safety ball."  The Executive Committee thought this should be on the website, fact sheets, and discussed at all pre-tournament meetings.

Review of MLB mound visits:  The recommendation of the Executive Committee is we wait until the 2018 Board Meeting and have the Rules Committee address this issue.  It would be best to see how it works in the Majors this year before addressing or using it especially when we have made all the other major changes with age, pitch count, and bats.  We did not specifically indicate it going on the website but needs to be addressed on fact sheets and at pre-tournament meetings.

Technology Committee: The committee met with both BLUE SOMBRERO and AFFINITY in regards to websites, local League Registration and All-Star Affidavits. The committee’s biggest issue has been communication between the two applications. We want it to be silent and running in the background

Blue Sombrero has been doing a great job on getting their websites into our League hands with their help and support. Many Leagues are using their websites and Player Registration application. They have been very proactive in making changes and addressing issues we have requested. For the 2018 Season Leagues that have used their Registration Application we will need to use either their “Button drop” or the transfer Excel Spreadsheet to get the information into the Affinity Database. The Transfer Spreadsheet is available on PONY.ORG. In all cases if you need help contact me.

The next level for the Blue Sombrero Registration application will allow for a League to create Divisions along with different fees, dates and other functions. Having been using Registration applications with a local league what I saw impressed me very much. PLUS the major tie to the Affinity Database is built right.

Both Steve Miller and I will discuss the 2018 Tournament Team Affidavits. It looks like we’re ready to push the affidavit but waiting on a few little things to work out. I’ll be keeping the North Zone update no matter how we go.
