Mid Season Report
With us getting back from Knoxville on 3/29, we are about at the halfway point through the 2014 lacrosse season. We have practiced/played in snow, wind, rain, sleet, below freezing temperatures and beautiful days where the coaches have gotten sunburned. Everyone has worked extremely hard, and the results bare that. I know the coaches are extremely happy to have Team Mom Jill in the mix. She has come in and done a fantastic job. We all need to thank our Team Mom for everything she does.
The B-Team has had its ups and downs. That is to be expected when the overwhelming majority of the players are 6th graders. In addition, we are doing something that has never happened before at Signal Mountain. We have a middle school B team with NO 8th graders. That is the letter of the law, nevertheless we do end up playing some teams that play 8th graders. No one complains, and you guys go out and fight. The coaches love that. Right now, we are standing at 4 wins and 5 losses on the year. Three of those losses came against teams with 8th graders. To show how close we are from really taking off, there has only been one game that we were soundly beaten. So with 12 games left of the schedule, we have a chance to close out the season on a real high note. Remember when it comes to size and age, "Its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
The A-Team and the coaches came to a meeting of the minds a couple of weeks ago, and now the season is on a real upswing. After losses early in the season to the Knoxville Cannons and McCallie Blue Tornado, we have reeled off 5 straight wins. The last one was against the Knoxville Cannons, whom Signal Mountain Middle School has never beaten. We stand at 7-2 on the season, with 10 games left. (not counting Asheville) If we want to be the best, we have to beat the best. The best teams in TN have always historically been Baylor, McCallie, Brentwood, and the Knoxville Cannons. So with 10 games left, we get to play Baylor 3 times, McCallie once and the Cannons once more. So, we need to ramp things up, practice as hard as we play in our games, and finish this season with a bunch of firsts of our own.
